Here's a guy who paid high rent throughout his career but figured out how to own his home with no mortgage once he retired. Tim Tamminga shared his "how to retire early" strategy with CNNMoney.
And it's not like it's a big secret. Even though he paid high rent, once he retired he and his wife moved to a community where costs are much lower, buying a home for cash in a neighborhood he describes as nicer than the one where they lived before.
